It is a personal choice and with that choice come certain responsibilities and values to adhere to. The priest was fully aware of the consequences of his action, as it is wisely said “don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.” The action taken against the priest was not harsh; the onus is now on the priest to reevaluate his decision of taking the vow of celibacy. No one is perfect so we all have to try otherwise we will never know what our calling is. Charles Lindbergh said that success is not measured by what a man accomplishes, but by the opposition he has encountered and the courage with which he has maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds. God has given us a chance to repent, and has promised that if we do, He will forgive us our sins. I have absolutely no doubt as to where religion fits in - certainly it is no game although many of us treat it as though it were. The central issue surrounding this debate is whether the church should have taken the punitive measures which it did. Absolutely - every institution has rules and regulations to which are attached disciplinary measures if the rules are infringed. </P><P>Was the priest aware of the rules? Yes he was. We do not begin to play a game of tennis, football or any other game for that matter, then change the rules mid way into the game because we are losing. Being a priest ( and I would assume a catholic priest) takes precedence over any physical needs he may have. He chose to serve God 100% and he is unable to do that so maybe he needs a time out. Not everyone who becomes a priest is following God's calling. This priest is such an example. As you and I know that a lot of this is going on in our churches, which is very wrong. However this caused a great uproar amongst his church family as well as members/ followers of this religion. He was punished for his action, meaning he lost his position within the church, he was banished from Sunday mass, and all or any operations he dealt with in the church has come to an end.</P><P>Now does a simple, yet natural action such as embracing, kissing or touching a female justifies the harsh actions that was taken against this Priest? Or does "the vow of celibacy" takes precedent over ones natural feelings, needs and wants?
