| St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Yuramein), the ancestral home of the Garifuna hosts the reunion of its Garifuna people from July 18th to 23rd. The reunion made possible through the initiative of the Garifuna Coalition (USA) and the Regional Integration and Diaspora Unit (RIDI), as part of the Vincy Homecoming 2009 activities should be seen as more than just another activity. This reunion offers numerous opportunities both to the descendants of our people who were exiled by the British and to Vincentians alike. For the majority of Vincentians this is an excellent opportunity to learn, recapture and reconstruct portions of our history which has been lost. Likewise our visiting Garifuna brothers will be exposed to the people and culture of a land which holds the deposits of their foreparents. No doubt these few days will be culturally rich and historically engaging. This reunion spans but a few days, how do we move forward as we continue to understand our past in our attempt to influence our destinies? How do we fan the flames of exchange?
