In the absence of a track and field section I have opted to comment on the performance of our Caribbean Athletes in the IAAF World Championship in the History/Heritage section because this is indeed history in progress. What do we say about Usain's Bolt performance in the 100m and 200m respectively, both record breaking runs?  This man is simply special!

What is heartening is the apparent shift in dominance of track and field from the US to the Caribbean nations.  Jamaica is clearly the best sprinting nation of the world and has demonstrated this week ,that it a nation blessed not only with sporting talent but with the coaches who can harness that talent into world record breaking performances.  Indicatively, quite a few of the other Caribbean athletes who performed well are being coached in Jamaica by Jamaican coaches.

Respect to Trinidad, Barbados, the Bahamas, St. Kitts, Cuba, Dominica to name a few.  Clearly, our athletes have demonstrated, as they did before, and in other sporting disciplines that we have what it takes to compete at the highest level with the best in the world.  We ought therefore to be demonstrate greater  confidence in our abilities in other areas. Respect.

Like you said this is an historical moment. The shift in dominance on the field was just spectacular. The races had my heart pounding as I wait for the gun to fire and the sprinters set off. Usain Bolt is nothing short of outstanding, his performance and growth of maturity has reigned during these races. But what has proven to be more historical than anything else, are the women. The way they ran, the hunger they had to win these races was so inspiring. You are right this is not only a "sport" moment but one that should and will go down in history.

The Caribbean needs to be commended and honored for such extraordinary performances, these event will no doubt be an inspiration for our younger generation both boys and girls; for some it will be a life long vision of hope. Lets keep on this race for success and perseverance.

I agree with you that the performance of our Caribbean women was outstanding.  The gold medal performance of Bridgette Foster-Hylton who considered retiring after her performance at the olympics is inspiring.  Malaine' Walker had been beaten by Lashinda Demus of the US for the entire year but persevered to secure gold in the 400 M hurdles.  Theirs are lessons in perseverance, theirs speak to the ability of the human spirit to rise.  Amid all of our difficulties, the stumblings blocks might be many but we are all endowed with an ability to succeed.

The history records show that that Caribbean women have secured more medals at the international level than our men.  I guess they trying to catch up now. :-)
